PIPER POND RESERVOIR "The Res"

Park

West Springfield, MA

If you are a fan of "pond hockey" or just like the feeling of the wind in your face as you glide across the ice, check out Piper Pond in West Springfield.  Town officials monitor the safety of this pond daily which you can check by clicking here.  There is plenty of room for social distancing and two benches are available to sit on and lace up your skates.  Park near Memorial Pool on Smyrna Street and find your way down one of the paths behind the pool to the pond.  Be careful! I may or may not have slipped on the steepest option on my way to the pond!

Please be safe and respect posted signs when considering skating on frozen bodies of water!  And take a minute to review these guidelines and tips for determining outdoor ice safety.

SLEDDING

Grab your favorite ride and head to one of these popular hills in the Westfield-Southwick area for some good old-fashioned sledding fun!

Agawam:  Behind the public library/High School (750 Cooper Street)

Southwick: Southwick High School (93 Feeding Hills Road)

West Springfield:  Cooks Park (471-505 Amostown Rd) across from the entrance to the high school

(Note-I just checked out this sledding spot with my family and wiped out so hard my first run down!  Luckily there is a ton of variation in the height and scare factor so I was able to easily move myself to the "bunny hill" as my kids called it and still enjoy myself while they headed down face first over jumps.

Westfield: East Mountain Country Club (1458 E Mountain Rd)

Westfield: Vocational High School/Westfield Technical Academy (33 Smith Ave)

SNOWSHOEING
