We all know we are responsible for our own happiness. Right? Right.
Sometimes I have to remind myself of that.
Here are 10 goals I keep in mind to help me achieve my own happiness:
- Stop comparing yourself to others! Be proud of who YOU are. You are unique and that is what sets you apart from everyone else.
- Replace worry with gratitude. Stop worrying about things you can't control and instead be grateful for what you have. You may find that the little things are what matter most.
- Listen to that whisper inside of you that wants to try something new. Get out of your comfort zone and you'll find many great things can happen.
- If you don't like something about yourself, change it! You are in control of YOU! It is your life!
- Give without expecting anything in return. If you are giving to expect a return, you are doing it for the wrong reason. Generosity makes you feel good and it brings happiness to those you share with.
- Listen. Sometimes it is just a good idea to stop talking and really listen to your friends/family/co-workers. Communication is a two-way street. Truly show you care by listening.
- Dedicate some time every day for YOU! Meditate, read, garden, pray, read a book, have a cup of coffee/tea, or whatever makes you happy. You will find it helps you be a better parent and partner. It is amazing what a little "you time" can do for your outlook for the day!
- Surround yourself with people who truly care for you! A friend recently told me that she read an article that said you become like the five people you surround yourself with. Choose people who you admire to surround yourself with.
- Don't be afraid of change. Change sometimes opens the doors to more opportunities.
- Find something good in every day! Give others a smile; you may be the only smile of their day. Practice kindness and give without expecting anything in return.
