Reigniting my Excitement for Cooking with Blue Apron

Almost eleven years ago, when my husband and I first got married I was so eager to learn how to cook.  We had registered for every kitchen gadget under the sun and I was determined to make my way through all of the cookbooks we had received.  I had all the time in the world to run to the grocery store for ingredients and to pour over recipes to see what I wanted to try next.  But, as time went on - life happened - aka kids happened, and activities and work and less time happened.  Slowly but surely I lost my drive for cooking.  I now cook much less and grab for something easy much more.  It has been awhile since I have even tried a new recipe.... it all just takes too much "figuring out".

That all changed this weekend however - we tried out Blue Apron for the first time!  With a few clicks on their website, it was easy to order our first two family meals, step one (and the hardest part) was complete, I knew what we were going to have.  All of the ingredients arrived a few days later - super fresh and nice and cold in their delivery box.  This again was heaven!  I didn't have to scour the stores to search for ingredients!

On Saturday night we opted to make the Parisian Steak Frites together as a family.

I loved that Blue Apron includes absolutely everything that you need for the recipe (the only ingredient that I had to have on hand was olive oil).

The recipe was super easy to follow and I loved that each step had a little box next to it so you could check it off (because let's face it - with kids helping things can get a little distracting).

The best part of Blue Apron though, was getting my kids involved in the cooking.  Since they are now old enough to help with things like adding salt and pepper, picking the thyme off of the stems, squeezing lemons, mixing, etc.  I was able to take my time with the recipe and discover that I really do love learning how to cook (notice I say learn - because I am by no means a great cook - but Blue Apron did a fabulous job of walking me through each step).  I will say that each recipe that I tried did take me about 45-50 minutes to prepare - so you really ARE cooking - this is definitely not just pulling a ready made meal out of a box.

I also think that since the kids took part in the cooking process, they were more eager to try our meal and eat more of it!

I mean, who wouldn't want to eat that yummy dish?  And it 100% tastes as good as it looks!

Blue Apron has options for 2 people or families of 4.  You can select 2-4 recipes per week and there are different options to choose from each week.  Pricing breaks down to $7.99 - $10.99 per serving, which if you think about it - you would spend more than that going out to eat or ordering in something fancy from a restaurant.  Plus, honestly the family time while preparing the meal is just priceless!  I highly recommend giving it a try!

I received complimentary product in exchange for my review.  All opinions are my own.
