Summer Reading Fun at YOUR Local Library

Summer is right around the corner! Local libraries encourage children to read over the Summer with special programs and incentives. Check out our calendar throughout the season to see what special events are going on at all the local libraries. Here is a list of local libraries participating this year. Click on each one for contact information and more details.

Agawam Public Library

Kids & Teens Summer Reading Program: Monday, June 26th – Friday, August 4th, 2017. Registration has begun. Kids and teens use their Reading Logs keep track of the time they spend reading (or listening to a book being read). Kids and teens earn raffle tickets just by reading. The raffle tickets can be used to enter to win weekly raffles or a grand prize raffle. Reading Logs can be picked up at the library beginning June 19th. After 25 days of reading, all participants will be eligible for a certificate and a book of their choice.

Southwick Public Library

Build a Better World! when you join this year’s Suntime Reading Program at Southwick Public Library. Pre-register today for this annual reading event with prizes and special programs for all ages. Children ages 2 through grade 6 (in fall of 2016) can enter to win prizes in our 6 weekly drawings, including a ticket to the Big E, & more! Earn bonus chances by completing special activities. Each visit for the first 6 visits, kids can receive a coupon for a free treat from one of the following businesses: Blossoming Acres Farm, the Summer House, The Daily Grind, Moolicious, Mrs. Murphy's Donuts, Southwick McDonald's, The Notch Travel Center, and Pasticceria Italia. June 24, 10am-1pm: Opening Day with Balloon Man, Ed Popielarczuk, Glitter Tattoos & more!

Teen Suntime Reading Program, Build a Better World! The Teen Suntime Reading program is almost here and this year’s theme is “Build a Better World.” Our programs, book displays, and activities will focus on being good to the environment, expanding creativity, and fostering healthy relationships! Sign-ups begin on June 24th and it will run until August 4th. For each of the six weeks of the program, we’ll have special events and activities. Each week, for every hour you have read, you will get one entry into the weekly raffle for cool prizes like gift cards from Amazon and the Holyoke Mall, books, and more (with a maximum of five entries per week). For every weekly activity and event you attend, you’ll also get an entry into the weekly prize drawing! Teens that are entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall can participate in this year’s summer reading program in person or online at https://wandooreader.com/southwickma/teen-suntime-reading-program (please note that prizes must be picked up in person).

Westfield Athenaeum

Summer Reading Kick-Off Event: June 24 10am-2pm. Join us on the Town Green for a variety of activities for all ages!
Special performances, henna tattoos, face painting, local authors, crafts, games, refreshments and more.
10am: Malik the Magic Guy
11:30am Karaoke with DJ Kris Saunders & Line Dancing with Claire Sanborn & Friends
12:30pm Story time with Mayor Sullivan
1:00pm Music from Dan Daniels & Your No Good Buddies
2:00pm Truck "Petting Zoo" at the Berkshire Bank Parking Lot on Court Street
