I love ice cream-I mean I really love ice cream-so much so that my wedding theme was based on ice cream (table names were flavors, sundae dishes for centerpieces-you get the idea). Needless to say as soon as that first warm day hits our area, I can't stop thinking about ice cream! Luckily the Agawam/Southwick/Westfield Area is filled with great places to go for ice cream. Here are my family's recommendations on where to get a sweet treat now that the warm weather is upon us! Make sure to check the shops Facebook pages listed below for current hours and flavors! Enjoy!
1. J.J.'s Soft Serve & More
336-338 North Westfield Street, Feeding Hills
We love it because their creamy soft serve is hands down the best in the area. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable. They also serve hard ice cream (not homemade) for those who would prefer that instead. We have been there twice already since it opened in March and there were long lines out the door both times so plan accordingly! They also make soft serve pies for special occasions. Open daily! (3-8 Mon-Fri, 2-9 Sat & Sun)
2. Gran-Val Scoop
223 Granby Road, Granville
It's a bit of a drive but totally worth it-homemade ice cream and baby goats? Yes please! Gran-Val just reopened for the season and you can walk around and look at the animals while eating your ice cream. In the summer months they offer family friendly activities like movies under the stars too. Open daily 11:30-9
3. Classic Burger
1261 Westfield Street, West Springfield
Classic Burger is a great little place to grab a quick dinner but it's their ice cream that is the true standout. Their ice cream is homemade by people that attended the prestigious Penn State Ice Cream School (my current new bucket list item!) and it can't be beat! You can also enjoy your ice cream while sitting in a vintage car and they are open till 10 for those late night cravings! Open daily 10:30-10
4. Moo-licious
258 Feeding Hills Road, Southwick
Opening April 30th for the season, Moo-licious has both homemade and soft serve options. Pre-Covid you could walk up the hill to see the goats and rabbits and there is plenty of space for the kids to run around. They are always adding more fun things to run around and see on their spacious property. Moolicious sells food too and is a great place to enjoy a casual lunch outside during the warmer weather. Not yet open for the season.
5. Summer House
552 College Highway, Southwick
The Summer House has the best kids meals around complete with a yummy ice cream treat for dessert! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a wooden train play structure that will keep your kids entertained so you can enjoy your ice cream in peace. Open daily for lunch 11-8
6. Northside Creamery
519 Southampton Road, Westfield
If you're not careful you might miss this little Westfield ice cream shop. All their ice cream is homemade with new flavors added to their menu all the time-and yes they are open to suggestions! Open daily! (3-9 Mon-Fri, 1-9 Sat & Sun)
