February 11, 2021

Check out all the ways to explore Science this month in the Westfield/Agawam/West Springfield area that are fun for the whole family!

VISIT THE AMELIA PARK CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Every Friday the Amelia Park Children's Museum has a "Science Lab" where they do a special science activity based on a monthly theme. This month's theme is Arctic and Antarctic Animals. The APCM is open for 2 hour slots from either 10am-12pm or 1pm-3pm.  Science Lab is included with paid admission during a play session.

TAKE A STEAM TOUR AT STORROWTOWN VILLAGE MUSEUM

Visitors will learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) in the mid-19th century village. Engage in three hands-on activities throughout the 90 minute tour. Activities vary by season but some examples of activities include making mini catapults, sun prints, kaleidoscopes, drop spindles, beewax candles, cornhusk dolls, harmonicas, sundials, and more!

Recommended for ages 7-12 but all ages are welcome.  Tours are $12/person and ages 6 and under are free.

How about a day trip during school vacation week?

The MUSEUM OF SCIENCE IN BOSTON just re-opened for this month for public visits-just in time for February break!  Reserve your tickets online in advance and check out exhibits like Arctic Adventure: Exploring with Technology, and The Science of Pixar which gives you a behind the scenes look at how some of your favorite characters are made. Don't delay with booking tickets-time slots are going fast!

If Boston is too far a drive for you, take a short trip down to Hartford to the CONNECTICUT SCIENCE CENTER. Not all exhibits are open so check their website before you go.  FYI my favorite exhibit KidSpace is open so don't forget to bring a change of clothes for water play fun!  Timed tickets are required in advance and can be purchased here. During February vacation week everyone pays kids prices!
