Hotel Hacks: Tips for making a hotel stay more fam

By Holly Christy June 25, 2015
Summer means vacations, road trips, and family getaways! When travel lands your family in a hotel for a night or two, it can sometimes be challenging to make the one-room living situation comfortable for everyone. Here are a few favorite hotel room hacks that just might come to the rescue!

Download a white noise app, or bring along a white noise machine, to drown out the hotel noise - or to muffle the sound of a son or daughter snoring!

Pack a nightlight for those middle-of-the-night bathroom trips.

If you have a little one who wakes at the first hint of the sun, bring a light-blocking drapery liner with a bungee cord threaded through the rod pockets. You can block the offending window in a matter of seconds!

Bring a few extra plastic cups for tub toys. The kids have fun with them, and you don't have to worry about bringing them home.

If you have a baby, pack an extra sheet to make a clean place to play on the hotel room floor. You might also be able to hang the sheet up as a room divider for when baby is sleeping.

Pack a book light and/or headphones so you can read or watch TV when the children are sleeping.

Save money on food by packing things you can eat in your room with the mini fridge and microwave:
  • Instant oatmeal
  • Cereal and milk
  • Yogurt
  • Frozen breakfast sandwiches
  • Fresh fruit
  • String cheese
  • Microwave popcorn
  • Lunch meat, peanut butter, sandwich fixings
  • Grilled chicken salads
  • Hummus and pretzels or veggies
